Job Description:
SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Bus Service Mechanic performs general maintenance and light duty repairs to vehicles for Tri-Valley’s transportation department and provides upkeep to transit facilities. Effectively collaborates with the Transportation Fleet Maintenance Coordinator to ensure program needs are met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Bus Service

  1. Performs routine automotive maintenance and preventive care, such as checking and changing oil, lubrication of chassis, replacement of light bulbs, and repairing of electrical components
  2. Performs diagnostic services to determine appropriate repairs.
  3. Repairs and replaces worn and defective parts.
  4. Assists in maintaining a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
  5. Assists with the coordination of vehicle periodic maintenance schedule and minor repairs as needed.
  6. Test drives bus as part of diagnostic testing and to confirm repairs have resolved the problems.
  7. Prepares and submits work orders to Transportation Fleet Supervisor as necessary.
  8. Wheelchair-lift maintenance and repair.

Safety Compliance

  1. Must complete pre-service safety awareness training specific to position before performing essential functions of the job, annually thereafter and as requested to ensure your safety as well as the safety of others.
  2. Follows precautionary safety instructions to prevent injury and illness resulting from exposure to hazardous substances, sharp and/or moving parts, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. Degree or Certificate in Automotive Repair or related field; or two years of experience working in a position requiring basic mechanical aptitude.
  2. Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of bus automotive repair; will be tested.
  3. Valid Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements; upon hire and maintain thereafter.
  4. Current Medical Examination Card; upon hire and maintain thereafter.
  5. Minimum age of 21 years, if required to drive bus across state line.
  6. Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and background search requirements as listed on Conditional Job Offer; upon hire and continuously meet requirements thereafter. Participate in subsequent drug/alcohol testing and background searches as appropriate.
  7. Proof of current personal vehicle insurance.
  8. Two years of experience working with computers, including a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  9. Must have own basic hand tools.
  10. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
